In-form jockey Larry Cassidy is confident he can ride the crest of his winning wave all the way into the winner's circle in Saturday's $200,000 Ipswich Cup.

Fresh from his Queensland Derby win on Court Ruler on Saturday, Cassidy has been booked to partner the Robert Heathcote-trained Our Lukas in this weekend's Listed 2150 metres event.

Cassidy already has one Ipswich Cup on his mantelpiece from his victory aboard Portland Singa in the 2004 version and the former Sydney hoop is surpremely confident Our Lukas can give him a second.

"He can win for sure," Cassidy said.

"He's racing really well and his lead-up form is spot on. He raced a bit dour at his last run and the step up in distance will be perfect.

"I've developed a good association with Rob Heathcote, he's a good trainer and his horses are racing really well at the moment."

Our Lukas will be backing up for the second time in seven days in the Ipswich Cup following his last start third behind Bareena in the Listed Phil Sullivan Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 6.

On that occasion he travelled just off the pace and Cassidy is hoping the horse will draw well so he can ride him the same way at Ipswich.

"He'll be thereabouts and won't be too far off them during the run," Cassidy said.

"An inside draw will be a big help. It will just mean he will be able to get into a good spot a lot easier.

"It's a big help to be on the speed around Ipswich and I won't be changing his usual racing pattern."

Heathcote pencilled the Ipswich Cup as Our Lukas' main mission after he scored first-up this campaign over 1400m at Eagle Farm on April 25.

The horse then finished fourth to Sir Kingsford at Doomben on May 9 before saluting at the same course over a mile and Heathcote is confident his run last Saturday will have the horse in perfect order for the Ipswich Cup.

Our Lukas has had one run at Ipswich for a victory over the cup distance in April last year and the Generous five-year-old will start close to favourite in the Cup.
