The Queensland Derby will be the mission for Landlord who underlined his staying potential with a hard-fought win over 2000 metres at Randwick.

The Bart Cummings-trained colt is by European stallion One Cool Cat who stood at Cambridge Stud for a couple of seasons while his mother is 2000 NZ Oaks winner She's Country.

With Cummings still recuperating from a recent illness, his grandson and foreman James Cummings was on hand when Landlord ($8.50) gained the ascendancy over $2.80 favourite Our Billy Blue in Saturday's John R Turk Handicap.

"He is classically bred, his mother is an Oaks winner so the Queensland Derby will be where he goes," Cummings said.

"He is a nice animal and in a Derby where there is genuine speed he will be able to show his finish."

Tim Clark had Landlord just behind race leader Agrippa most of the race.

When Agrippa dropped off, Clark and Landlord had a fight on their hands from Our Billy Blue but prevailed by a half-head with Stage Performer ($5.50) running on fairly for third three lengths away.

Although pleased with Our Billy Blue's effort, trainer Paul Cave said he still had too much to learn to warrant taking on Landlord again in the Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 12.

"There will be no Derby for him, his greenness is against him," Cave said.

"He still doesn't know what he's doing and I don't want to be taking him away until he does.

"He will back-up here in two weeks and then we can put him away and get ready for the spring.

"He is a horse with a lot of ability and who knows, maybe one day he will get to the Melbourne Cup."

While the Cummings camp was happy to see Landlord win, it was a case of yet another placing for Think Money who ran third in a 1600m race at Kembla Grange.

Runner-up in the 2009 AJC Australian Oaks, Think Money has racked up 10 placings from 24 starts earning herself the tag of arguably Australia's best maiden.
