Steven King has an early guide to his spring chances following the wins of two of his prize mounts, Rostova and Predatory Pricer, at the Cranbourne trials on Monday.

Rostova won the sixth trial in 49.48 which was the fastest of the 17 800 metre trials.

The Testa Rossa filly cruised through the heavy conditions for a length win over Paris Memory.

Trainer Steve Richards said Rostova would resume in the Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 15 on her way to the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14 which is her main mission this spring.

Dual Group One placegetter Predatory Pricer, prepared by Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray, won his trial in 1:03.07 which was the fastest of the five 990 metre heats.

A half-brother to champion sprinter Takeover Target, Predatory Pricer will do all his racing this spring in Melbourne and is being stabled at Ballarat.

The four-year-old entire, by Whobegotyou's sire Street Cry, hasn't raced since finishing fourth to Pompeii Ruler in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 25.

Earlier he was runner-up to Sousa in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) and third to Roman Emperor in the AJC Australian Derby (2400m), both at Randwick.

The chestnut has won three of his 12 starts including the Listed Ming Dynasty Stakes (1400m) and the Group Three Gloaming Stakes (1800m), both at Rosehill last September.
