A step up in class and distance has not dented trainer Rod Craig's confidence in two-year-old King Of Love ahead of his next assignment at Randwick.

The youngster comes into Saturday's Still An Inspiration Handicap (1400m) off a 2-1/2 length win over 1100 metres at Canterbury on July 1 where he beat odds-on favourite The Mikado on a heavy track.

"I was more worried about going back from 1250 to 1100 last time than I am about him stepping up to 1400 this week," Craig said.

"We're a lot happier to see him going up in distance, a nice 1300 would have been a good stepping stone but this is all that's on and we're still pleased and we think he'll love the 1400.

"And with all the rain about, the track will be heavy again and he showed last time he can handle that too."

Craig's small team has been in good form with King Of Love's win at Canterbury the first of two for the day with Velocity Gal also successful.

"We've only got about eight or so racing and things are going really well," Craig said.

The Warwick Farm trainer is in no doubt King Of Love will be better for his last run.

"He's a bit of a roly-poly horse and even the other day he looked a bit fat in the enclosure, he had a really good blow after it," Craig said.

"I've envisaged a fair bit of improvement in him.

"If he does go well we could give him a little let-up and then have a look at something later on, not so much the top grade but maybe something just under."

Craig has booked two kilogram claiming apprentice Mitchell Beadman for the ride on King Of Love who has drawn barrier eight.

Stablemate Kiss Of The Dragon runs in the AJC Convention Handicap (1600m) and is coming off a seventh to Deutsche at Rosehill on July 4.

"It was a good run the other day, he made a fair bit of ground up late," Craig said.

Kiss Of The Dragon is by the former Craig-trained multiple Group One winner Intergaze as is Clevergaze who will also be in action at Randwick.

Clevergaze lines up in the Bacardi Breezer Handicap (1200m).

The seven-year-old ran fifth to The Invincible One at Canterbury on June 25 and has not won since December last year.

"He gets back in his races and needs a bit of luck in the run home," Craig said.
