Kidnapped confirmed his place as one of the country's most exciting three-year-olds with a thrilling win over South Australian filly Majestic Music in the Group Two Sandown Guineas on Saturday.

The Peter Snowden-trained gelding was sent out the $2.10 favourite and showed plenty of character to come back and win after appearing beaten in the shadows of the post.

Snowden was delighted considering the race didn't pan out as he hoped, but Kidnapped's rising talent was still evident.

"It probably wasn't the run I really wanted to get," Snowden said.

"There was nothing in front of him rolling into the race. He never really had a chance to come back into the bridle.

"He's usually back and behind them and travelling and then lets down quickly.

"He was a bit out of his comfort zone today.

"He stuck his head out on the line and that was the main thing."

Snowden said after the win that Majestic Music was the horse he had most feared in the race.

"She had form coming into the race," he said.

"She's a horse I took particular notice of in the yard." "Her form read quite well and I wasn't surprised to see her there challenging at the furlong (200m).

"Luckily enough we were good enough."

Connections are very much looking forward to the autumn with Kidnapped when he will return to Sydney and tackle the feature three-year-old contests.

"I think he's going to be a Rosehill Guineas-type horse," Snowden said.

There were some anxious moments for the winning team when Clare Lindop, rider of Majestic Music, elected to view the stewards' film with connections after the race.

Lindop felt her mount had been the victim of some interference approaching the turn, but no objection was lodged and the placings stood.

For winning rider Kerrin McEvoy the win was a welcome one for him and owner Sheikh Mohammed.

"He stargazed around a little bit again," McEvoy said.

"With his big action he was slipping and sliding a bit.

"Once he saw the other one (Majestic Music) he switched on, I got stuck into him and he got the nod."

Kidnapped was able to edge out the gallant Majestic Music ($5) by a half-neck.

They spaced the rest, with the best-supported runner, Turf Express ($11 in to $9.50) another 2-3/4 lengths back in third place.

Inherited by Sheikh Mohammed with the purchase of Woodlands Stud, Kidnapped is by the stud's resident sire Viscount from an unraced mare by Dehere.

He is a half-brother to the former stakeswinning three-year-old Deledio - a winner of six races up to 1812 metres.
