Stathi Katsidis has continued his recent great form with another double at Eagle Farm to extend his lead in the battle for Brisbane's riding honours this season.

Katsidis rode five winners on metropolitan tracks last week and added another two on Wednesday to take his tally of winners this season to 70, four clear of rivals Jim Byrne and Larry Cassidy who were restricted to riding one winner each.

Katsidis' double came aboard True Decoy in the Poolwater Products Handicap (1400m) and Mington in the Brisbane Bloodstock Handicap (1200m).

The Gerald Ryan-trained Mington showed he had bright future which could lead to him going to Sydney to chase the major three-year-old races in the spring.

Ryan's foreman Matthew Dunn said the son of Mossman would head south if he could win his next start.

"He's got a very relaxed attitude and has a very good future," Dunn said.

"He's better than Saturday class here in Brisbane and if he can win his next run he'll go back to Sydney for the spring.

"We put blinkers on him for the first time today and they made a big difference."

Katsidis was also impressed with Mington who was caught three deep off his wide barrier in the early stages before finding another gear after straightening to win by four lengths to Our Hussey.

"After we got caught three wide I had to wait but then he clicked into another gear," Katsidis said.

"He'll learn a lot from this win and he's got a good future."

Katsidis remains confident he can claim his third title despite missing the final meeting due to commitments to ride AJC Australian Derby winner Shoot Out in the Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield on July 31.

Trainer Tony Gollan also pulled off a master stroke by using blinkers on Baroque Pearl in her commanding 1-1/4 length win in the Poolrite Plate (1200m).

However, Gollan missed the win as he's in Sydney preparing top Toowoomba sprinter Spirit Of Boom for next month's Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.

Gollan's father Darryl Gollan said Baroque Pearl went through the Magic Millions sale ring as a yearling but never attracted big bids because of a blue eye.

"She's got a bit of a blue eye which buyers don't like and I think that's the reason she was never sold and was bought back by her breeder, Colin McAlpine," Gollan said.

Baroque Pearl's win was her first in seven starts but McAlpine is hopeful she has similar ability to her mother, Pearly Shells, who won eight of her 28 starts for trainer Peter Bell.
