Jockey Stathi Katsidis is an unabashed fan of three-year-old Shoot Out but he's the first to admit the gelding will need luck to win next month's Magic Millions Trophy.

Katsidis had his first race ride on Shoot Out in Saturday's $100,000 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm and was more than impressed with his 1-3/4 lengths sixth behind surprise winner Dual Chamber.

But the leading hoop fears Shoot Out's immaturity and the tight turning Gold Coast track may well prove his downfall in the $1 million Magic Millions feature over 1400 metres on January 9.

"He's far from an ideal horse for that sort of race," Katsidis said.

"He was all over the place on Saturday and his legs were all over the place.

"I've got no doubt he's top class and he gave me the feel of a really nice horse.

"He might be the horse who storms over them in the Magic Millions but he will need a lot of luck with the way he races."

Katsidis said Shoot Out's trainer John Wallace suggested he might put blinkers on the High Chaparral gelding and the leading jockey agreed with that line of thought.

Gold Coast filly Dual Chamber may have caused the upset but winning rider Danny Craven said the victory was far from a fluke.

"She's very good filly and she will win more good quality races," Craven said.

"She was climbing all over them in the straight and she exploded when she finally got into the clear. She has a brilliant turn of foot."

Toowoomba colt Choistar produced a big performance when third to Dual Chamber and his rider Brad Pengelly was rapt with the horse's effort.

"He's a nice horse and he gave me a lovely feel during the run," Pengelly said.

"His condition gave out the last bit but he'll very hard to beat in whatever race he starts in next.

"He was a pleasure to ride and he felt like a top horse."

Dual Chamber, runner-up Princess Qualo, Shoot Out and Choistar are all likely to clash again in the Group Three Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on Boxing Day.
