Trainer Con Karakatsanis is banking on the astute horsemanship of experienced jockey Jon Grisedale to guide Double Your Luck to back to back wins at Orange on Monday.

Grand Buckley was aboard the four-year-old when he won his most recent start over 1400 metres at Bathurst on September 11.

Grisedale also partners stablemate Tribal Son at Orange, described by the young Rosehill trainer of Stradbroke winner and leading Cox Plate contender Black Piranha as the day's best bet.

Double Your Luck tackles the GWRC Function Centres On Sale Rating 62 Hcp (1600m) and Tribal Son the Book Now For Melbourne Cup Day At Orange Class 2 Hcp (1300m).

Double Your Luck can be a difficult horse to ride Karakatsanis said.

"He can tend to over-race and do things wrong," Karakatsanis said.

"Last start he finally got a bit of luck in running, Jon got him going at precisely the right time and he was too good for them even with the big weight (59kg).

"The horse has done very well since winning, he's had a couple of good gallops, is very fit and ready to win again. The extra trip won't worry him either.

"The key tomorrow will be tempo. I don't want them to walk, he needs a good clip up front but handling the horse will be up to Jon."

Karakatsanis has always had a big opinion of Double Your Luck.

"His record (15-3-2-0) should be better but there is further improvement in him," Karakatsanis said.

"Getting jockeys to ride him the right way has been a problem."

Tribal Son, part-owned by Sydney restaurateur John Kazzi who also has shares in Black Piranha, has a strong provincial formline including a last-start close third to Sugarfoot over 1400m at Kembla Grange on September 12.

"The only way to ride him is snag him at the start, get him to relax behind horses for the first 600 metres then let him wind into the race," Karakatsanis said.

"He's been ridden too handy previously.

"If he's ridden right, really, he should just be too good for them.

"The horse has done really well since Kembla.

"He's the day's best bet."
