Central Coast jockey Josh Parr's dream of riding the winner of a Gosford feature came true when he scored a thrilling victory on Prima Nova for trainer Anthony Cummings in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes.

The 21-year-old's win in the 1600-metre race followed his success on Horizons at Randwick yesterday for his former boss Gai Waterhouse.

Parr grew up at Point Clare on the NSW Central Coast, not far from the Gosford track where he was apprenticed to Kylie Gavenlock.

"I used to take days off school for these race meetings and it was always a dream of mine to win a big race here and I'm so happy and proud to have done it," Parr said.

"I'm also very appreciative of Anthony Cummings for giving me this ride."

Parr was transferred from Waterhouse to Crown Lodge trainer Peter Snowden before coming out of his time at the end of last season.

Today was his second stakes win after he steered Falaise home for Snowden in the Group Three Newcastle Newmarket Handicap in April.

"When I came out of my time I was told that it would be hard and it has been, but thanks to the support of people like Gai, Peter and now Anthony, I'm getting some great opportunities and making the most of them," Parr said.

Prima Nova was given a quiet ride by Parr who was happy to see Chris Waller's stablemates Miss Nikki and Stacked having a speed battle in front.

And Parr said the pair put the race on a platter for him.

"I was very happy with the speed and she was travelling beautifully too," Parr said.

"Once I straightened I knew I had them and I just gave her a couple of digs and she responded perfectly and powered home."

Prima Nova had a five kilogram weight advantage over Alverta and it told in the closing stages with Parr's mount winning by three-quarters of a length with the heavily backed favourite Lustre Lady the same margin away third.

Trainer Paul Messara was proud of the effort displayed by Alverta.

"The weight beat her but she'll keep racing and probably go the Hawkesbury Cup in a couple of weeks," Messara said.

Prima Nova travelled from Melbourne on Thursday night for Sunday's race and connections said she would most likely head back there for the spring.

The Danehill Dancer mare came into Sunday's race after running eighth to Bellini Rose in the Group Two Blazer Stakes at Flemington on October 4.
