Trainer Les Bridge is the first to admit Jersey Lily is not in the class of former stablemate Hot Danish.

But she does have one key quality the ill-fated mare did not.

"She's no More Joyous or Hot Danish," Bridge said.

"She still has to go to that next level.

"But the good thing is she handles all types of tracks."

Hot Danish didn't have the same zip on wet tracks and it probably cost her a couple of Group One wins.

The darling of Sydney racing for several years, she died last April following an infection resulting from a leg injury.

This autumn will be the first without Hot Danish in six years and Bridge will look to Jersey Lily to be his stable flag-bearer.

Six-year-old Jersey Lily was runner-up in the Group One Coolmore Classic 12 months ago but had just one run in the spring due to a hamstring injury.

Rather than opt for a bandaid solution, her connections decided to give her a decent spell.

"We gave her a good four-month spell and brought her up slowly for the autumn," Bridge said.

"It hasn't hurt her. She's got stronger."

Jersey Lily will resume in the Group Two Breeders' Classic (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday, a race Bridge won with Hot Danish in 2009.

He doesn't expect Jersey Lily to do the same this weekend but says she is in such good shape it won't surprise him if she runs a cheeky race.

"She's come back terrific. She trialled terrific for her," bridge said.

"She's never won first-up and that's the fly in the ointment.

"I'd love to see her win but she usually needs a run or two. About third-up she seems to hit form.

"But she'll run well on Saturday."

Bridge will follow a similar program to last year and target the mares races with Jersey Lily.

She is nominated for the Doncaster but will need to be in career-best form to warrant heading that way.

As will Bridge's other Warwick Farm runner Leica Larrikin who will return in the Fernwood Liverpool Handicap (1300m).

The full-brother to Leica Falcon has had just three runs for Bridge and finished down the track each time.

But the Randwick horseman is expecting better results this autumn.

"He got a virus last time in and it buggered up his campaign," Bridge said.

"Everything is good with him this time."

Leica Larrikin won a recent barrier trial and Bridge has engaged apprentice Sam Clipperton to take two kilos from the gelding's 61.5kg impost.
