Sydney's premier trainer Chris Waller looks set to figure in his first Golden Slipper after Jade Marauder's barnstorming victory in Saturday's Group Three Sweet Embrace Stakes.

Waller was close to having his first Slipper runner last year but Fast And Sexy was scratched at the barriers.

Jade Marauder's last-to-first victory in wet conditions at Randwick earned the talented filly a ballot exemption for the $3.5 million event to be run at Rosehill on April 7.

"We'll just keep her in cotton wool now," Waller said.

Jade Marauder came out slowly in Saturday's 1200m contest for fillies and Waller admitted he had all but given up hope of victory.

Sydney's leading jockey Hugh Bowman never panicked on the daughter of Fastnet Rock and when the gaps appeared in the final 200 metres Jade Marauder ($3.70) powered home to overhaul the Gai Waterhouse-trained Valerio ($26) by a long neck.

Kyria ($10) also worked home nicely on the slow track to finish another half-neck away third.

"I thought she had blown it, especially when I saw the leaders kick away turning for home," Waller said.

"Obviously we'll have to sort her barrier manners out before three weeks time but certainly she's got the ability to be running in these races and it was a great win.

"She's a pretty smart filly.

"Apart from the start she's a bombproof racehorse and she's shown that in every one of her races."

Jade Marauder is at $26 with TAB Sportsbet for the Slipper and Waller believes a high-pressure contest will suit the filly if she is able to get there in three weeks.

"She jumped well last start but we rode her back and maybe she's just got into a habit," Waller said.

"I'm sure she'll be fine and in a pressure race like a Golden Slipper where they run along, it's got to suit a filly like her."

Bowman had earlier ridden his Golden Slipper mount Raceway to second in the Skyline Stakes but was able to go one better on Jade Marauder.

Bowman said he had little option in the straight but to wait and hope the gaps appeared.

"I didn't try to go for the runs before they came," he said.

"I really had no options until the heavens opened and then she was dominant."

Valerio raced on the speed throughout and her jockey Tommy Berry believes his mount was left in front too soon but will improve from the experience.

"It was a very good effort from a wide gate," Berry said.
