Exciting filly Irish Lights continues to impress trainer David Hayes as he gears her towards the major fillies races this spring.

The three-year-old is set to cement her place at the head of the Thousand Guineas market in Saturday's Group Three Prelude (1400m) with Hayes declaring she has improved since from her dominant win at Flemington on September 5.

"She has trained on and I think she will develop in to a pretty good horse," Hayes said.

Jockey Glen Boss will again ride Irish Lights after she surprised him last start with her spectacularly strong finish to beat Avenue by nearly three lengths in the Sofitel Girls Day Out Handicap (1100m).

Irish Lights, who is at the top of the markets for the Thousand Guineas on October 14, gives every indication that she handle more ground as she progresses through the spring and Hayes is confident she can win again.

"The way she races when will get further," Hayes said.

"She has had three runs and in two of them she has been the best finisher."

At her race debut Irish Lights was a fast finishing second to Rostova in a Blue Diamond Preview while shin soreness explained her poor performance in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

"She is set for the Thousand Guineas and the Guineas Prelude will tell us if she is good enough," Hayes said.

Only four fillies have won the Thousand Guineas Prelude-Thousand Guineas double, the last being the Hayes-trained Miss Finland who also won the VRC Oaks in 2006.

Meanwhile trainer Mick Price will be chasing his second Thousand Guineas Prelude with Corsaire and Clocked.

Price, who won the Prelude in 2002 with La Bella Dame, has ordered a change of tactics on Corsaire who will be ridden back from her wide gate while time is running out for Clocked who desperately needs a prizemoney boost to elevate her in to the better races later in the spring.

Price will experiment with Corsaire in the hope that the new tactics will help her run out 1600 metres at her next start.

"For her to get 1600 metres she has to be ridden cold," Price concluded.

"It will be interesting to see how she goes ridden that way over 1400 metres this week."

He said Clocked was a talented filly but she needed a top three finish to assure her of a start in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in two weeks.

"I am mindful that this is her third run in 15 days but if she can get in to the money here her preparation will be back on track," price said.
