Connections of talented stayer Hissing Sid are hoping for a case of second time lucky when he lines up in Saturday's Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington.

Hissing Sid started favourite in the Listed race 12 months ago when he finished fifth to Phaze Action.

He had won the Warrnambool Cup in the lead-up and again used that race as a stepping stone this campaign posting an emphatic 4-1/2 length victory there last week.

Hissing Sid is one of 21 nominations for the Andrew Ramsden (3200m) and a win would qualify him for the other, more famous 3200m race at Flemington in November.

Steve Richards has entered Irazu, who was runner-up to Gallic in the 2007 Sydney Cup at his only previous attempt at the distance.

However, the seven-year-old will need to stage a form reversal having been soundly beaten at his past two runs over 2000 metres in Sydney and 2800 at Flemington on Saturday.

The Patrick Payne-trained Kerdem will be out to atone for his second to stablemate Capecover in the Adelaide Cup three starts ago while Saturday's Flemington winner Persian Star will face her first test at the distance.

Adding further interest to the race will be the Lee Freedman-trained European import Ajhar who posted his first Australian win at Flemington last month, while 2007 Victoria Derby winner Kibbutz will strip fitter for three runs back from a spell.

The Andrew Ramsden is one of two stakes races on Saturday's program along with the Henry Bucks Straight Six (1200m).

There are 26 entries for the sprint headed by the Mark Kavanagh-trained Catapulted who went down narrowly to Velocitea last start in the Group One Goodwood on May 2.

Danny O'Brien has nominated handy galloper Lucky Thunder while Peter Morgan could start former Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Royal Discretion.

Also among the nominations are the smart Midnight Mustang, Viking Turf Belle and former Irish galloper Mourayan who is set to make his Australian debut for owner Lloyd Williams.
