Group One placegetter Hinchinbrook will step up his spring preparation with a jump-out at Rosehill on Tuesday.

The Gerald Ryan-trained colt has not raced since his third to Yosei in the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes which came after his fourth in the Golden Slipper won by Crystal Lily.

Ryan, who enjoyed a stellar winter carnival in Brisbane with the likes of Melito and Rothesay, said he was looking forward to the spring with Hinchinbrook and hoped the jump-out would give him an idea of his progress towards races like the Caulfield Guineas.

"He seems well but he's so lazy and laid back it's hard to get a line on him," Ryan said.

"He's a lovely colt and if I'm happy with the jump-out he may run in a barrier trial the following week.

"The Golden Rose in August will probably come around too quickly for him but there are a lot of other races we can go for."

Hinchinbrook has had five starts for two wins in the Canonbury Stakes and the Skyline Stakes and a placing in the Pago Pago Stakes in addition to his Sires' third.

Ryan's focus this week will also be on Ironstein who contests Thursday's Grafton Cup (2350m).

By super sire of stayers Zabeel, Ironstein won two races in Sydney before his victory in the Caloundra Cup (2400m) last Saturday week.

He is raced by a syndicate which includes John Singleton who bred the four-year-old from his mare Gentle Genius whose career-best performance was her second to Sunline in the 2002 Coolmore Classic.

"He has done very well since the Sunshine Coast and will be ridden again by Michael Cahill," Ryan said.

"The plan after Grafton is to give him a freshen-up and get ready for races like the Newcastle Cup and then see where he goes after that."

Ironstein has 57kg for the Grafton Cup with just Indikator (58kg) and last year's third placegetter Twin Win (57.5kg) above him.

The Ryan-trained Animando will not run in Wednesday's Ramornie Handicap for which star country sprinter Border Rebel is topweight with 60kg.

Acceptances for both days of the Grafton carnival will be taken on Monday.
