Kris Lees declared Hidden Wonder "not far off another win" after her most recent start and is confident the mare can prove it at Randwick on Saturday.

Since arriving at Lees' Newcastle stables in November last year, Hidden Wonder has been a model of consistency.

The mare won her first three starts for the stable and has been placed twice since but will be out to claim her first win this preparation in Saturday's Deloitte Handicap (1600m).

The five-year-old's consistency has certainly surprised her trainer.

"I probably didn't show her as much respect when she first came, she was going to be retired but she's won three races and a fair bit of prizemoney and has been a good money-spinner for connections," Lees said.

Hidden Wonder finished second to Pure Drama at Rosehill three weeks ago and even in defeat Lees felt the mare performed admirably.

"She raced three deep outside them and was still there at the finish," he said.

"She's come through it in great order and I think the three weeks into this race is ideal for her over a track and distance she's performed well at."

Hidden Wonder, who won the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) on the Gold Coast in January, was being considered for another Queensland trip for Saturday's Listed Centenary Classic Mile at Eagle Farm but the trainer has elected to head down the F3 to Sydney instead.

"I just thought it looked a pretty competitive race in Brisbane and she would've been very competitive in it, but this race just looked a more suitable option being a smaller field with her on-pace style," he said.

"I just thought I'd try and get her back in the winner's stall."

Among Hidden Wonder's competitors on Saturday will be last-start winner Lebrechaun as well as in-form galloper Delago Star who has recorded two wins and two seconds from four starts so far this preparation.
