Former Perth star Hay List has been entered for races in two states as new trainer John McNair tries to find the right conditions for the sprinter's eastern seaboard debut.

McNair has taken the precaution of nominating Hay List for the Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm as well as the June Stakes at Randwick.

"Basically I've entered him for Brisbane as insurance against the weather turning ugly in Sydney," Gosford-based McNair said.

"My preference is to run him at Randwick but if it is too wet I'll look at heading to Brisbane. It gives me another option."

McNair wants a Randwick track rated better than a slow (6) for Hay List to step out in Sydney.

"I trialled him on a heavy track at Gosford but the jockey (Chris O'Brien) told me he got through it without handling it," McNair said.

"Given the issues with his feet I don't want to take an necessary risk with him."

Hay List tasted his first defeat in nine Perth starts when he finished out of a place at his most recent appearance at Ascot on November 14 before his transfer to McNair.

Hay List was set to make his Sydney debut on May 29 but was scratched from a Randwick race because of a rain-affected track.

"The horse is certainly the real deal and that's why it's been a frustrating time," McNair said.

"Basically I'm just feeling my way with him but I'm extra keen to get a few starts under his belt to get him used to the Sydney way before we head towards the spring."

Hay List, who will be ridden by Glyn Schofield if he starts at Randwick, is one of 15 nominations for the June Stakes.

Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride has entered three horses headed by wet track specialist Bejewelled.

Bejewelled's stablemate Electric Dreams joins Hay List as a cross-nomination between the June Stakes and Lightning.

Other trainers trying to cover both bases include Neville and Christopher Voigt with De Dozen Stars and Kris Lees with Pins On Parade.
