Gosford trainer John McNair has implemented plan-B by sending Hay List north by float for the Group Three Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm.

McNair originally planned to start the former Perth sprinter in Wednesday's Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford but a wet track forced him to scratch the four-year-old.

"I wasn't certain he would handle the wet and he's better on top of the ground," McNair said.

"I believe the Healy Stakes is slightly easier than the Takeover Target and our biggest problem is the 12-hour float trip.

"I'm not sure how he'll handle that. He'll leave today and arrive on Friday."

McNair doesn't want a hard track for Hay List for his Brisbane assignment and was pleased light rain fell on Wednesday ensuring some give in the track ahead of Saturday's 1200-metre feature.

"He's had a few feet problems in the past and to get a hard track would be detrimental," he said.

"He's still got a few (feet) issues and only time will fix them."

McNair rates Hay List a potential Group One performer and is considering a Melbourne trip in the spring for the son of Statue Of Liberty.

Hay List won his first eight starts in Western Australia before he was transferred to the east coast.

"A good friend of mine Jim Taylor trained him in Perth and he was devastated to lose him," McNair said.

"He's a massive horse who weighs 620 kilograms and he'll eventually run 1600 metres."

Hay List made his debut for McNair with a strong second to Love Conquers All in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on June 12.

McNair said Nightofthegenetral, who was in an adjacent stall to Hay List, reared at the start and impeded his gelding.

"He's normally one of the first out from what I've seen of him in Perth," he said.

"He's a fairly keen-going horse and has a high cruising speed but he never got to show that at Randwick."

Glyn Schofield rode Hay List in his eastern states debut but Chris Munce has been booked for the Healy Stakes.

Munce has been in great form since quitting Sydney earlier this year, winning the Group One Queensland Oaks on Miss Keepsake and Group Two Brisbane Cup on Crossthestart.
