Gold Coast trainer Alan Bailey is weighing up whether to again tackle the Grafton Cup with Frozone after the gelding's strong win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Frozone finished second in the Ipswich Cup and Grafton Cup last year, but Bailey said the five-year-old appeared more at home over the 1600m of Saturday's Listed Tattersall's Racing Club Mile.

While not ruling out taking the Reset gelding to the NSW northern rivers for the 2350m Grafton Cup on July 14, Bailey said the horse appeared to have the race won last year before tiring.

"I'll wait and see. I am half-thinking to take him, but I'm just not sure if he'll run the distance. He had the Cup won last year and wilted and it was much the same story in the Ipswich Cup," Bailey said.

"I'm just not sure he runs the ground. That's why I've kept him back and gone a bit quietly with him. I've had this race over the mile in mind for him for a while."

Frozone enjoyed the perfect run from barrier one as jockey Scott Seamer had him in the box seat behind the leader Firebolt.

He peeled out on straightening and gave chase to Devils Arcade who had taken the lead.

Seamer backed up Bailey's opinion of the gelding.

"He's always shown a bit but it's taken a few seasons for Alan to work him out," Seamer said.

"He seems more a sprinter-miler now than a horse that will get 2000 metres-plus. The good barrier and speed helped today, but more often than not he'll win races like that."

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Devils Arcade ($12) had a tough run after jumping from the outside barrier but still fought hard and it took all of Seamer's vigour to get Frozone ($8) home.

Jockey Chris Munce said had the barriers been reversed Devils Arcade would have won.

"The gate killed me, under the circumstances it was a super run," Munce said.

One the line Frozone had three-quarters of a length to spare over Devils Arcade with Atom Cat ($12) flashing home for third.

Favourite Firebolt ($4.40) was very disappointing and weakened badly from the home turn to finish 17th in the 18-horse field.
