The absence of Samantha Miss from the Thousand Guineas has bolstered the spirits of Sydney trainers with fillies in Wednesday's Group One race at Caulfield.
Clarry Conners will saddle up Glowlamp and for the first time in nine starts she won't have to worry about Samantha Miss who is headed to the Cox Plate.
"It's nice to know Samantha Miss won't be there," Conners said.
"I'm sick of the sight of her and Glowlamp is sick of the sight of her backside."
Although she is still a maiden, Glowlamp has performed well at the highest level and finished in front of Samantha Miss in the Sweet Embrace Stakes in the autumn when second to Stripper.
Samantha Miss then finished in front of Glowlamp in the Magic Night won by Portillo, and again when second in the AJC Sires' Produce.
Glowlamp was third in the Champagne Stakes which marked the start of Samantha Miss's dominance which continued through to the new season and a clean sweep of the four legs of the Princess Series.
Glowlamp was placed in the first and third legs, the Silver Shadow and Tea Rose Stakes, and found it hard to get a clear run when fifth in the Group One Flight Stakes.
"She has settled into Melbourne well and Blake Shinn will ride her," Conner said.
"I'm happy with her and I she just needs some luck."
Portillo ran second to Samantha Miss in the Flight following her third in the Furious Stakes and fourth in the Tea Rose.
After the Flight, trainer Peter Snowden said he would pay the Cox Plate acceptance fee to get Samantha Miss out of his sight and out of the Thousand Guineas.
Love And Kisses finished third in the Silver Shadow and second in the Furious with trainer Chris Waller another happy to be taking a filly to a race without Samantha Miss.
"I think she's great for racing, but I'm pleased she won't be there," he said.
Markets for the Thousand Guineas (1600m) will undergo a reshuffle when final acceptances are taken on Monday with Samantha Miss currently on top ahead of Romneya and Portillo.
