Trainer Tony Noonan is hoping talented mare Princess Gisella, who joined his stable this campaign, can win her second Group Three Cockram Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

The five-year-old daughter of King Charlemagne was trained by Robert Smerdon when she won last year's Cockram (1200m) before she was sold at the 2009 Australian Broodmare sale for $140,000.

Her new owners sent her to Noonan and she made her debut for her new stable with a pleasing fourth over 1100 metres to Marchelle Belle at Caulfield on August 1.

It was her first run since a tailend finish in the How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last September.

Noonan is upbeat about Princess Gisella's prospects heading into the spring as he tries to find suitable races to put value on her as a broodmare.

"She's a good mare to pick up," Noonan said.

"She's only had the one run for me but she went well."

Apprentice Brent Evans rode Princess Gisella last start but Craig Newitt takes the mount in the Cockram which she won last year beating Group One performers Mimi Lebrock and Devil Moon.

The winner of five races from 28 starts, Princess Gisella is from the same family as 1990 Caulfield Cup winner Sydeston.
