Hall Of Fame trainer Lee Freedman has his eyes on his fifth VRC Oaks after well-bred filly Dizlago scored an easy win in a race that has proven a dud guide to the Classic.

The daughter of Encosta De Lago and 2005 AJC Australian Oaks winner Dizelle was impressive as she powered clear on the heavy ground to win by 3-1/4 lengths in Saturday's Listed Sportingbet Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield.

A drifter in betting from $8 to $10 she beat Savabeel filly Placement ($11) with Sandown winner Bride Salama ($21) 3-3/4 lengths away third.

Dizlago has history against her as a winner of the Caulfield feature has never been able to go on to win the Oaks.

Arapaho Miss came closest to landing the double in 2007 when she won the Oaks after finishing second at Caulfield.

However the Oaks has been kind to Freedman with wins by Northwood Plume (1994), Kensington Palace (1997), Special Harmony (2003) and Serenade Rose in 2005.

Dizlago has the same ownership as Serenade Rose which includes high-profile doctor John Tickell who is fighting brain cancer.

Freedman said Dizlago reminded him of Kensington Palace.

"I rank her a Kensington Palace-sort of filly who didn't deliver until she got to 10 furlongs (2000m) and this filly has done the same thing," Freedman said.

"She's been our Oaks filly from day dot.

"We earmarked her as staying filly of considerable promise and she has delivered today and the Oaks is looking good for her."

Freedman said the heavy track was some concern after Dizlago failed on a slow track when first-up this campaign, but he remained optimistic that the Encosta De Lago blood would kick in.

"You have to be pretty stiff to get an Encosta (De Lago) that doesn't handle the wet," Freedman said.

Freedman has left the Oaks ride open for Nick Hall who was impressed with the way Dizlago overcame a bumping duel on the home turn to run out a strong 2000 metres.

"I reckon she would be a chance for sure," Hall said.

"She is only a little filly but was strong through that tightness (on the turn) and I was really pleased with the way she found the line."
