Jay Ford had a couple of good feeds after Doncaster day and is back to his fighting weight as he builds up to reunite with the exciting Monaco Consul.

Ford has been booked to ride the dual Group One winning three-year-old in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick, his first ride on the colt since winning the Spring Champion Stakes over the same course and distance on him last October.

Ford spent the week leading up to the Doncaster wasting heavily to get down to 51kg to ride Brilliant Light into third place in last week's $1.5 million feature mile.

"I had a couple of good feeds after Saturday ... I'm back to my fighting weight now," he said.

"It's great to get the opportunity to get back on Monaco Consul's back this week. He's proven he's a very good horse and he's coming off a pretty strong third in the Derby. I think he's a big player in the Queen Elizabeth."

The son of High Chaparral turned in three below-par performances back home in New Zealand earlier this preparation but again showed his liking for Australia when he ran home strongly behind Shoot Out and Descarado in the AJC Australian Derby (2400m) last start.

With Damien Oliver sticking with Doncaster runner-up Road To Rock in the Queen Elizabeth, Ford got the call to jump back on the Michael Moroney-trained three-year-old.

Monaco Consul came to Australia as the winner of an Ellerslie Maiden last spring when Ford got the chance to ride him in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes.

The jockey, who travelled the world riding champion sprinter Takeover Target, wasn't expecting a great deal until he entered the mounting yard before that race.

"Just before the race Michael said to me 'he's a very good horse and we expect him to go very well'," Ford said.

"They had big wraps on him so the horse was really only living up to the big opinion they had of him.

"I've only ridden him the one time but I know if the horse races like he did the day I rode him then he's going to be in this race on Saturday right up to his ears."

On Thursday, Monaco Consul was second favourite with TAB Sportsbet at $5.50 behind Doncaster Mile winner Rangirangdoo ($2.30) while Road To Rock was a $6 chance.
