Ron Macrae says a return to firmer ground gives two-year-old Aquatorial a great chance of bouncing back to winning form at Doomben on Saturday.

Aquatorial won by more than seven lengths on debut at Toowoomba in February before a close second at Doomben later that month.

Macrae gave the gelding a freshen-up and he got further back than expected at Eagle Farm last Saturday on a slow track before hitting the line strongly for third to Mr Favulous.

The son of Oratorio lines up in Saturday's The Fifi and Jules Handicap (1110m) where he is the pre-post second favourite behind Spurtastic.

Macrae said Aquatorial had come through last week's run in great order.

"I wouldn't be backing him up if he hadn't come out of it well," Macrae said.

"He licked his feed bin clean when he got home last week and he pulled up magic.

"I actually think he might have got away on me a touch with a month between runs because he's a great eater, so I think he'll be a better horse tomorrow."

Doomben was rated a dead (4) on Friday and Macrae believes on paper the race isn't as tough as what Aquatorial faced a week ago when beaten 3-3/4 lengths over 1000m.

"I really think he's going to be very hard to beat and I don't think it is as tough as last week's race," Macrae said.

The Toowoomba trainer has a good opinion of Aquatorial and has kept him in work with a view to targeting the $100,000 Magic Millions Plate at Rockhampton on April 7.

"That's where he is headed after tomorrow and then he'll be put away for a spell," the trainer said.
