Trainer Trevor Bailey hopes to be in Melbourne with promising sprinter Faster Son on Cox Plate day if the four-year-old continues his excellent strike rate at Doomben.

Faster Son will be chasing his fourth win from five starts and his first victory in the metropolitan area when he makes his comeback in Saturday's Joshua Brisbane Camperland Jayco Handicap (1200m).

Bailey has a big opinion of Faster Son and has pencilled in the Group Two Schweppes Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 23 as his spring target.

"I'll know more after Saturday but if he comes up this campaign we want to take him to Melbourne," Bailey said.

"He'll have a few more lead-up races but the race on Cox Plate day is what we're looking at with him.

"If he doesn't go for that race there's another suitable race on Caulfield Cup day."

Faster Son hasn't started since cruising to a near six-length win in three-year-old class over 1200 metres on his home track at the Gold Coast on April 17.

It followed a similar all-the-way win by more than four lengths in a 1200-metre Class One at the Gold Coast when resuming in March.

The Fastnet Rock gelding suffered his only defeat when he faded to finish fourth at Ipswich on November 17 which followed his debut victory at the Gold Coast a fortnight earlier.

Bailey had aimed Faster Son for the Group Two Gold Coast Guineas (1200m)in May but decided to spell him after he failed to make the field.

"Normally bonus prizemoney isn't taken into account when horses are weighted but it was for the Gold Coast Guineas and he was pushed down the order," Bailey said.

"He was second emergency and there was only one scratching so he never got a run."

The Bailey stable has been in great form in recent weeks following wins from Carlton Forward, Slick Image and Flying Minstrel.

Bailey believes all three are destined for better things but Faster Son is the one he's looking to take interstate for the spring.

"He's done everything we've asked and I'm hoping he can go to Doomben tomorrow and take the next step," Bailey said.

"He's a little bit like Flying Minstrel in that he puts himself in his races early on."

Bailey is confident Faster Son, who will be ridden by Ric McMahon, will have no trouble adapting to the Melbourne direction.

"He tends to get off the track this way, that's why he races in a one-eyed blinker," he said.

"He was far superior to his opposition at his last two runs and I'm hoping he can win again."

Bailey decided not to send Slick Image or Flying Minstrel interstate for the spring.

"Slick Image is spelling and will come back to prepare for the Magic Millions Trophy," Bailey said.

"Flying Minstrel has already had a couple of weeks in the paddock and also will aim for the Magic Millions race."

Last-start Doomben winner Carlton Forward will be ridden by Bobby El-Issa when he lines up in Saturday's RW Pascoe Plate (1350m).
