Veteran Toowoomba trainer Paul Nolan celebrated a career highlight when Fantastic Blue won Saturday's Group Three Premier's Cup at Doomben but said he hoped the best was yet to come.

Nolan is a member of one of Queensland's most famous racing families and has trained plenty of good gallopers down the years but he has no hesitation in naming Fantastic Blue the best horse he has prepared.

"He's a very good horse and I told everyone who would listen that he would win today," Nolan said.

"He was fourth up today. He was badly ridden last time and his work during the week on the track has been outstanding."

Fantastic Blue ($71) became one of the longest priced winners of a feature Brisbane race when he snatched a short-head win over Dance With Her ($9) in the shadows of the post to seal a shot at the Brisbane Cup next month.

Sydney stayer Ironstein ($8) ran on well late to finish a neck back third with Shamardashing a close-up fourth.

Gun apprentice Tim Bell made the most of his good fortune and extended his successful partnership with Fantastic Blue when he replaced Glen Colless who was booked for the ride but couldn't make the weight.

Bell had won two races previously on Fantastic Blue and the star apprentice said he was confident throughout the race.

"He settled a long way back but the trick to him is getting him to relax and he was always travelling for me," Bell said.

"He worked into the race nicely from the 600 (metres) and he was strong on the line."

Nolan has harboured a lifelong ambition to win a Brisbane Cup and he is confident he has found the right horse to win the 2400m Group Two feature at Eagle Farm on June 9.

"I've always wanted to win the Brisbane Cup since I was a young fella," Nolan said.

"So that's where I will take this horse. He will pull up in good shape after this race and he has to be a big chance in the Cup.
