Evergreen galloper Falaise will avoid the state's best winter sprinters in Flemington's Straight Six despite having better credentials than most of them.

The Peter Snowden-trained seven-year-old has won 10 races and more than $700,000 in stakes but will miss Saturday's Listed 1200m sprint and line up as the topweight in the Murray Cox Handicap (1400m).

Earlier this month Falaise was beaten five lengths when 14th to Velocitea in the Group One The Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide signalling to the stable that his best was now behind him.

"He's been a super horse and very honest but he's nearly eight now and is not as sharp as he used to be," Paul Snowden said.

"When he ran in The Goodwood he was the highest stakes earner and it was a race we really had to have a shot at because there was nothing else for him."

He said Falaise was best suited to an off-season campaign and that he would push on through the winter instead of being set for spring assignments.

"We may as well keep him going now and, while he is going well, keep punching away with him," Snowden said.

He said it had taken time for Falaise to build stamina to run a strong 1400 metres and that he may even been tried at 1600 metres this campaign.

Snowden said the Winter Championship series was an option but with a 102 rating Falaise was bound to get big weights.

The Straight Six attracted 26 entries including highly-credentialled international stayers Alandi and Mourayan who are both owned by Lloyd Williams.

Alandi creates considerable interest as the Group One winner of the Irish St Leger (2816m) and the Prix Du Cadran (4000m) at Longchamp at his last two starts.

However Goodwood placegetters Catapulted (second) and Very Discreet (third) look to hold the key to The Straight Six while Victoria Handicap winner Orbit Express, who was sixth in the Goodwood, also looks a big threat.

Lightly-raced four-year-old Eight Bills, who was beaten for only the second time in eight starts when fifth in last week's Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool, True Tales and last-start Caulfield winner Anteros are among others with claims.
