David Hayes could have four runners in next week's Australian Cup if Extra Zero can find his best form with blinkers on in the Group Two Autumn Classic at Caulfield.

Hayes has confirmed last year's Cup placegetter Zagreb and imported gallopers Our Aqaleem and Changingoftheguard for the Cup and will decide after Extra Zero runs in Saturday's 1800m feature whether he will join them.

"We will make a decision on Sunday morning whether he goes to the Australian Cup or the Sydney (Randwick) Guineas a week later," Hayes said.

Hayes ruled out the Australian Guineas on Australian Cup day next Saturday as an option for Extra Zero believing the race would be too hard against Denman, Linton and Set For Fame.

"With those three horses there you probably want to run in the Australian Cup instead," Hayes said.

"It would be easier."

TAB Sportsbet has put up Extra Zero at $41 for the Australian Guineas (1600m) while he is only $14 for the Australian Cup (2000m).

Zagreb, who was on the losing end of a three-way photo-finish to stablemate Niconero and Theseo in last year's Australian Cup, is also at $14 on Saturday week while Our Aqaleem is the most fancied of Hayes' Cup team at $10 with Changingoftheguard at $21.

Extra Zero has promised a lot but his only win in 10 starts was at Flemington on Anzac Day last year.

Last spring he was second in both the Group Two Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley and the Victoria Derby (2500m), and fourth in the Caulfield Guineas.

Hayes was pleased with Extra Zero's first-up third to Take The Rap in the Group Three Hayes Stakes (1400m) but thought he would have done better than fifth to Linton in the Group Two Alister Clark Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.

"First-up he was very good and second-up he was very bad," Hayes said.

Hayes took blinkers off Extra Zero for the Victoria Derby but will put them back on him on Saturday.

"With the blinkers back on and stepping up to 1800 metres he should be pretty good," Hayes said.

"I'm expecting a big improvement."
