Electric Dreams was a first-up winner at the corresponding New Year's Day meeting last season but her Randwick performance on Saturday holds much more significance.

The speedy mare is targeting a first black-type success in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) and trainer Joe Pride believes it is within reach for the daughter of Redoute's Choice.

"It's very important for her tomorrow," Pride said.

"Two other Listed races she has run in (June Stakes and Sheraco Stakes) she has run into some pretty good horses.

"This is probably the easiest one she's been in - it's not easy but it's the easiest one she's been in - so hopefully she can take advantage of that."

Armed with plenty of natural speed, Electric Dreams looks set to attempt an all-the-way win in the Carrington for which she is the $3.80 third favourite behind Border Rebel ($2.60) and Cardinal Virtue ($3.40).

Electric Dreams' chances were also seemingly aided when free-running Keen Commander was not among the final acceptances due to an elevated temperature.

"I think it's less likely to be set up for a backmarker," Pride said when asked about Keen Commander's absence.

"I would imagine she (Electric Dreams) would assume the lead from that barrier (three). She runs along quite quickly, she won't be slowing them up but with Keen Commander in there it would have been a bit messy I think."

Electric Dreams has contested four black-type races in her 10 starts with fourth placings in both the Listed June Stakes and Listed Sheraco Stakes over 1100m her best results.

She has won two from four first-up including over the Carrington distance on the corresponding day in 2010 in a fillies and mares Benchmark 70.

A recent barrier trial win at Rosehill gave Pride the indication the mare was ready to run up to her best on Saturday.

"She's going really well, her trial indicates that she is going to run well fresh and in her past performances that's when she's raced best," the trainer said.

"I think she's still got her best runs ahead of her and she'll need to.

"She needs to go better than she's gone before to win that race but I'm sure she's capable of it."

Mares have won the past two Carrington Stakes with Hairy successful two years ago and Court winning the most recent edition.
