Honest mare Follonica will be having the eighth start of her preparation at Moonee Valley on Saturday but trainer Anthony Freedman sees no reason why her followers should drop her.

The Flying Spur four-year-old has won three races during her current campaign including two of her last three in the metropolitan area.

"She's been racing in great heart, is just in very good order and looks well placed," Freedman said.

"She's been wearing ear muffs this campaign and it's made a big difference to her.

"It has settled her down. She used to want to rip and tear."

A four-time metropolitan winner, Follonica won three starts back over 1200m at Moonee Valley on February 17 before Freedman stepped her up to Group Three level in the Mannerism Stakes (1400m) a week later.

She was far from disgraced when finishing fourth to Hi Belle, beaten 2-1/4 lengths after leading.

Last start Follonica dropped back to 1300m and led all the way to win from Two Hills at Sandown on March 7.

The topweight with 58.5kg will be ridden by apprentice Jake Duffy in the LF Sign Group Hcp (1200m) and his three-kilogram allowance brings her in just 0.5kg above the limit weight in the seven-horse mares 0-89 event.

Freedman saddles up last-start Bendigo metropolitan winner Frozen Moment in the Alternate Rail Hcp (1200m) and he is hoping another win will lead to a crack at a black-type race in Adelaide.

Craig Newitt, who rode the Choisir colt over 1000m at Bendigo when he defeated Imprimis by 2-1/2 lengths, retains the ride.

"The horse (Imprimis) that he beat at Bendigo went very well at Caulfield (when runner-up to Dashitude over 1000m last Saturday) so he's going to be very competitive," Freedman said.

"He'd have to win this but if he can we'd look at the South Australian Sires."

The Group Three SA Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) is run at Morphettville on April 21.

Typeface will be ridden by Daniel Moor in the Device Technologies Hcp (1200m) but Freedman believes he will find it tough to win from barrier 13.

The Elusive Quality four-year-old has won three city races, including one at the Valley, but was ninth of 10 runners behind Faster Son when resuming over 1300m at the Bendigo city meeting on March 17.

"He was terrible at Bendigo but he just didn't want to be there," the trainer said.

"He's had a bit of schooling but he's drawn terribly."
