Trainer Liam Birchley's bid to break his Magic Millions Classic hoodoo soared with star colt Pepper Jet making a full recovery from a foot abscess and drawing favourably for the $2 million feature at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Pepper Jet, second favourite at $5.50, drew gate four at Wednesday's barrier draw while unbeaten favourite Karuta Queen ($3.20) drew awkwardly in barrier 10.

Trainer Gillian Heinrich had mixed luck when Internal Revenue ($23) drew perfectly in barrier two while Military Grace ($10) came up with gate 18.

Heinrich, who won last year's Magic Millions Classic with Military Rose, also finalised the youngsters' riders with Melbourne's Michael Rodd partnering Internal Revenue while local jockey Daniel Griffin will ride Military Grace.

Birchley was relieved when unbeaten Pepper Jet's foot abscess finally broke after restricting him for the past few days.

"He's 100 per cent now. The foot abscess burst out yesterday around the coronet area from the stone bruise," he said.

"He had some acute pain over the frog but we've been able to gallop him."

Birchley, who has lost some of his stables to the floods that have ravaged southeast Queensland, was delighted with Pepper Jet's barrier draw.

"That's a terrific draw and I wouldn't swap my horse for any other in the race," he said.

"You need everything to go your way in this race.

"I don't know much about Karuta Queen and I'm just worrying about my bloke."

Birchley has had several runners in the Magic Millions Classic in recent years but his best result was with Paprika who was runner-up to Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready in 2009.

Heinrich refused to split her pair but hinted at a preference for Internal Revenue because of his better draw.

"Military Grace will come in to barrier 13 (if the emergencies don't start) and that's lucky for some," Heinrich said.

"You've got to look at the good points in life and I couldn't have either of them in better order.

"I like both of them but Daniel Griffin is the best rider at the Gold Coast and he's quite happy to be jumping from 13 on Military Grace.

"But I like barrier two better."

Heinrich said her confidence with the pair was the same as before last year's Magic Millions Classic with Military Rose.

"I didn't rate Military Rose as a good thing last year and I'm in the same position with these two this year. I'm confident they'll both be very hard to beat," she said.

"It's hard to split them on their work on Tuesday and it'll be about who gets the better luck in running."

Internal Revenue won at his second start at Doomben in November before finishing second to I'm The One in the Listed Phelan Ready (1000m) at Eagle Farm on December 11 and fourth to Military Grace in the Listed BJ McLachlan (1200m) on a heavy track at Doomben on Boxing Day.

Military Grace has won two of her three starts with her only defeat when runner-up on debut at Flemington in November.

Stewards declared the Gold Coast unsafe for racing after inspecting the waterlogged surface following the barrier draw on Wednesday but club officials are confident the meeting will proceed if the current fine weather prevails.
