Doubtfilly was a bargain-basement buy at $17,500 - now she has the $3.5 million Golden Slipper stakes in her sights.
Trainer and part-owner Stuart Kendrick was on the lookout for a "nice horse" to run on the Gold Coast when he picked up the daughter of Not A Single Doubt.
"She's only a very small filly so that is probably a reflection on how we got her a little bit cheaper," Kendrick said.
Karuta Queen, also by Not A Single Doubt, had just claimed the Magic Millions Classic when Kendrick was in the market for another horse.
"That's one of the reasons I singled her out," he said.
Four wins from six starts later, Doubtfilly has already netted almost $330,000 in prize money.
"She's exceeded our expectations," Kendrick said.
"Obviously when you do buy them you've got your fingers crossed but she's ended up a pretty good buy now."
Since missing out on a start in the Magic Millions Classic she has won her last three starts, including a 5-1/4-length drubbing of Snipzu in the Sky Racing Plate (1200m) on the Gold Coast earlier this month.
That win earned Doubtfilly a shot at the Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday and the chance to get into the Golden Slipper, the world's richest race for two-year-olds.
If she fails on Saturday she will return to the Gold Coast for a rest ahead of the Brisbane winter carnival.
But Kendrick thinks that, with Damien Oliver in the saddle, Doubtfilly has a very good chance.
"Her win the other day was really impressive," he said.
