Trainer John Sadler has stopped short of saying Black Caviar will be beaten in Saturday's Lightning Stakes, but he believes the world champion sprinter may be tested by Hay List if he takes his place in the $750,000 feature.

The unbeaten Black Caviar will shoot for her 19th win in the 1000m weight-for-age straight dash at Flemington, a race in which she defeated runner-up Hay List by 3-1/4 lengths last year.

However Hay List's connections are considering dodging Black Caviar and running him first-up in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday week.

Black Caviar went into the Lightning first-up after a 15-week spell 12 months ago.

But this time around she comes off a first-up 4-1/4-length win in the Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley late last month and a 3-1/4-length win in the CF Orr Stakes, which was her first attempt at 1400m, at Caulfield last Saturday.

"There's no doubt it's an issue, (it) would be an issue for most, probably not for her," Sadler told TVN.

"I would think this will be the most exciting race of her career, I've got no doubt about that, coming back from the 1400 metres.

"She had an easy run obviously last week but back to the 1000 metres against good horses at their distance that are fresh...

"You'd think Hay List may be able to test her. I think if ever she's been vulnerable it will be on Saturday.

"That's not to say I don't think she'll win, I think she will win but I think she'll be exposed."

Sadler will saddle up Sister Madly who will be resuming in the Lightning having not raced since her victory in the Group Two Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day.

However he doesn't hold much hope that the half-sister to former superstar Hong Kong sprinter Silent Witness can cause an upset.

"I'm pretty pleased with her, but when you talk Black Caviar and her you talk about five or six lengths, that's just the facts unfortunately," he said.

"So if Black Caviar runs to her best we're not going to be there (in the finish).

"But we're really looking forward to Saturday to see how she goes."

Sadler said the presence of Black Caviar in the Lightning meant the race would now be a pipe-opener for the $1 million Newmarket Hcp (1200m) at Flemington on March 10.

"That's the race we think she's (Sister Madly) going to have her best chance in, under handicap conditions, but you are always hoping," he said.

"When I saw Black Caviar win as easily and as comfortably as she did last Saturday, I thought she's only had a canter there and he'll (trainer Peter Moody) probably back her up which apparently he's going to do.

"But of course there are others there as well and it won't be an easy race.

"It's always won by a good horse and I'm just hoping that she (Sister Madly) runs well."
