Revitalised four-year-old Davcon has shown he will be a force to be reckoned with in the Winter Championship final.

Davcon rounded out his attack on next month's winter feature at Flemington with a timely win at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

A highly regarded performer from the Heath Conners stable, Davcon came from well back in the Geoff Torney Cup and, aided by a clever ride from Michael Rodd, was able to win by a neck.

The victory made up for his last start unlucky third placing at Sandown when he was held up for a run for much of the home straight.

"Michael rode him a treat," Conners said.

"The horse has gone great."

"Coming around the turn you were still a little bit worried because he still had to get that last little split."

A high class three-year-old who was fourth in the Caulfield Guineas behind Weekend Hussler and Scenic Blast, Davcon has been in great form since a gelding operation.

He has also had to contend with niggling injuries and problems over the past 18 months.

"He's an incredibly good horse this," Conners said.

"I think in two weeks time at Flemington he's going to be a force to be reckoned with."

"He's still got a little bit of improvement in him. We've kept him nice and short and fresh."

Davcon ($2.05-$2 fav) found the line strongly to get up and nab a gallant Bonindi ($11-$14) by a neck.

Enigmatic galloper Playwright ($4.60-$5.50) was another 2-3/4 lengths back in third place.

Following his run in the listed Winter Championship, Davcon will be spelled with interstate carnival aims in mind.

"There are the options of heading to Perth or perhaps even the Cups races in Tasmania," Conners summed up.

Davcon has turned out a great buy for connections who paid $25,000 for him at a Magic Millions sale in 2006. He has now earned over $250,000.
