Toowoomba mare Dance Girl Dance may have booked herself a trip to Sydney following her victory in the Fujitsu Australia Handicap at Doomben.
Dance Girl Dance took another step towards being Queensland's most improved horse when she cruised to a 1-3/4 length win in the $100,000 fillies and mares Quality over 1200 metres.
Trainer Kevin Kemp had been trying for a number of years to win one of Queensland Racing Limited's lucrative fillies and mares races but hadn't been successful until the five-year-old scored a commanding victory.
"I've run about 15 places in these races but until now I've never won one," Kemp said.
Kemp is tossing up whether to send Dance Girl Dance to Sydney for the Listed Wiggle Quality (1400m) at Warwick Farm on March 7 or spell her to prepare for the Brisbane winter carnival.
"I'd like to spell her but how can you put them in the paddock when they win like that?" Kemp said.
"There's a Listed race coming up in Sydney in three weeks and if I take her away it'll only be the second time I've been to Sydney.
"I'll wait and see first how she pulls up before I decide. It's a tough decision."
Kemp's last trip to Sydney was successful when Winsome Dancer won at Rosehill in May 2005.
"The only horse I've taken to Sydney was Burdekin Blues' half-sister Winsome Dancer," he said.
Burdekin Blues continued his brilliant form and booked a Melbourne trip for next month's Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington with a runaway win in Saturday's Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.
Kemp heaped praise on jockey Ric McMahon for obeying riding instructions to the letter on Dance Girl Dance.
"I told Ric to rider her forward as there wasn't much speed in the race," Kemp said.
McMahon did exactly as told and had Dance Girl Dance just off the pace before allowing her to surge to the lead in the straight.
Kemp hasn't ruled out retaining McMahon for Dance Girl Dance should he head to Sydney with her.
"I'd hope Ric would ride her anywhere and if we go south I'd like to keep him," Kemp said.
Kemp's other alternative with Dance Girl Dance is the fillies and mares races during the Brisbane winter carnival.
"She ran fifth in the Dane Ripper last year and third in the Gai Waterhouse Classic so those types of races will suit her again," he said.
"But I might even nominate her for the Stradbroke."
