Perth Cup winner Cats Fun is set for an unlikely showdown over the jumps with last year's Adelaide Cup winner Capecover after an impressive win at Sandown.

They are set to clash in Warrnambool's Kevin Lafferty Hurdle (3600m) on July 31 ahead of the Grand National Hurdle (4000m) at Sandown on August 14.

Capecover is unbeaten in three starts over jumps and Cats Fun has won his last two over obstacles after being winless since the 2008 Perth Cup (3200m).

The rising nine-year-old broke his losing run with a 50-length victory over Megapixel in a two-horse race over 3900m at Warrnambool on June 26 and on Wednesday scored by 3-1/2 lengths from Our Chateau and Scouting in the Follow @mrctracknews on Twitter Hurdle (3300m).

Monte Cassino, who was seven-lengths second to Capecover at Sandown a week ago, was fourth, nearly 15 lengths behind Cats Fun.

Warrnambool trainer Jarrod McLean said Cats Fun had grown in confidence since his Warrnambool victory.

"It is amazing what a win can do," McLean said.

"He has come here in good order.

"Coming back in trip was a slight concern but he is in a good spot now."

McLean said Our Chateau made it genuine staying test which suited Cats Fun who settled in the first four and applied the pressure over the last 800 metres.

"His biggest test is going to come at Warrnambool at the end of the month when he takes on the real benchmark horse of the season, Capecover, but he is loving his jumping and there is no reason he can't go on with it," McLean said.

Reigning Jumper of the Year Black And Bent is also a chance to be in the Warrnambool field.

McLean's brother Brad rode Cats Fun and is excited about his prospects after two wins and four placings from six jumps starts.

He said he could feel the horse's improved confidence.

"He has thrived since he started jumping and especially since he had the win at Warrnambool," Brad McLean said.

Meanwhile, leading trainer Peter Moodyis closing in on 100 city winners for the season after a winning double at Sandown.

Three-year-old filly Ben Zena won the 'Like' Caulfield Racing on Facebook Handicap (1300m) and four-year-old gelding Testascana landed the Betfair Handicap (1400m).

Moody has now trained 94.5 winners and is on track to be become the third trainer after Lee Freedman (115 in 2005) and David Hayes (103 in 2006) to reach the ton in Melbourne.

Moody is currently on holidays but has another seven city meetings before the end of the season to achieve the milestone.
