Anthony Cummings has the unbeaten Smart Missile waiting to be unleashed in the coming weeks but first he will try to win Saturday's Group Three San Domenico Stakes with another colt.
Cummings will start Listed winner Fontelina in the San Domenico (1100m) at Rosehill and anticipates a bold showing from the lightly-raced three-year-old.
"He worked nicely on Tuesday morning, I'm pleased with him and he'll be going into that race and be a good chance," Cummings said.
Fontelina chased home promising colt Startreusse over 1100m on debut at Canterbury in May before heading to Queensland for the winter carnival.
The son of Testa Rossa struck instantly at his first Brisbane appearance, taking out the Listed The Phoenix (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.
In his only other start Fontelina came in at the tail of the field in the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) and was found to be lame after the race.
"His first-up second was excellent, his win in his second start was excellent and then he was disappointing in the Group One but had a few issues that day when he pulled up," Cummings said.
"He's over all of that now and I expect him to be back to his best form first-up on Saturday."
Glyn Schofield, who partners the colt in the San Domenico, hasn't ridden Fontelina in a race before but was on board when he finished third to stablemate Smart Missile in a 728m trial at Randwick last Friday.
"He was quite fresh the other day in his trial and he's well enough to run a good race," Schofield said.
The John O'Shea-trained Foxwedge heads TAB Sportsbet's San Domenico Stakes market at $2.30 ahead of Magic Millions winner Karuta Queen at $3.50.
Fontelina is at $14.
Foxwedge hasn't started since the Golden Slipper in April and Sydney's premier jockey Nash Rawiller, who rode the colt in his three autumn starts, is looking forward to his return.
"I've got a lot of time for him, his trials have been nice and I'm looking forward to Saturday," Rawiller said.
"I reckon he's a high-class colt and Saturday's race looks like a really nice race for him to kick-off in."
