In-form trainer Anthony Cummings is looking for a big improvement from talented mare Prima Nova at Caulfield on Wednesday after she was beaten nearly 12 lengths at Flemington last start.
A dual Listed race winner, Prima Nova was slowly away, settled back and finished 15th of the 16 runners to Cats Whisker when second-up in the Group Two Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last Saturday week.
"We had a plan to go up the inside rail after she drew a very wide gate, but at the end of the day it didn't suit her," said Cummings who has won two Group One races already this season with Turffontein and Road To Rock.
"Bossy (jockey Glen Boss) said when he pushed her up to be midfield that part of the race turned out to be the fastest part of the race.
"But from a good gate (barrier three) tomorrow we don't have to do anything too exotic. She'll just jump out and be relaxed and have her normal strong finish and in this field I think she should be pretty hard to hold out.
"It took her a couple of days to get over her last run, but her work on Friday, and Monday certainly, was excellent so she's safe to assess at her best."
The Danehill Dancer five-year-old pleased the stable with her first-up fifth to Velocitea in the Group Three How Now Stakes (1200m) when beaten just over two lengths at Caulfield on September 19.
Boss, who rode Prima Nova in those two races, has switched to the Mick Kent-trained Clandon in Wednesday's Listed carsales.com.au Classic (1600m).
Corey Brown, who has won on her before, is reunited with Prima Nova.
Winner of the Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Gosford in October 2008 and the JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick in April, Prima Nova was runner-up to Russeting, prepared by Cummings' father Bart, in the Group One Winter Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June.
Prima Nova is weighted to carry 56.5kg, 1kg less than topweight and dual Group One winner Purple under the set weights plus penalties conditions and the same weight as New Zealand Group One winner Dane Julia.
