An improving track and a one kilogram weight advantage have boosted trainer Chris Waller's confidence Come On Cugat can turn the tables on Nuclear Sky in the Winter Cup.

Nuclear Sky beat Come On Cugat by a short half-head when they met in the Stayers' Cup over the Rosehill 2400 metres on June 13 and they will match it over the same course and distance on Saturday.

"He will appreciate the track improving," Waller said.

"He nearly beat Nuclear Sky last time and there's more weight between them so I think he can beat him this time around."

Nuclear Sky carried 58 kilograms, five more than Come On Cugat in the Stayers' Cup, and goes up to 59.5kg in his attempt to win back-to-back Winter Cups.

Come On Cugat goes up half a kilo to 53.5kg and will once again be ridden by Jeff Penza.

Last-start Sandown winner Fairygem was the $4 second favourite with TAB Sportsbet on Friday behind Nuclear Sky ($3.40) and has excelled on wet tracks in Victoria.

Niwot was at $4.40 while Come On Cugat was a $6 chance.

Come On Cugat's stablemate, European import Alexander Of Hales, finished fourth in the Stayers' Cup and was among nominations for the Winter Cup.

However, Waller has sent him north to Queensland for the bigger purse in the Caloundra Cup.

A heavy (10) track at the Sunshine Coast did not concern the trainer while Rosehill was rated a heavy (8) on Friday with some showers predicted.

Track manager Lindsay Murphy said it if it didn't rain there could be an upgrade to a slow (7).

Waller has stuck with journeyman jockey Penza for Come On Cugat while Nuclear Sky will be ridden by Hugh Bowman.

"Jeff rode him well last time and he keeps the ride," Waller said.

Bowman goes into the Rosehill meeting with a nine-win lead over Corey Brown in the Sydney jockeys' premiership.

Earlier this month, Brown whittled the lead down to two but has struggled to keep in touch in the last couple of weeks.

A winning double at Canterbury on Thursday was quickly countered by a treble in successive races by Bowman in his bid for his first title.

Brown won the premiership in 2001-02 when his battle with Darren Beadman came down to the final day of the season.
