The chances of Crystal Lily making a Sydney spring carnival cameo appearance have strengthened in the wake of the glamour filly's surprise first-up defeat.

In a minor campaign U-turn, owner David Moodie said the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday week was firmly back on Crystal Lily's radar - so long as the right track conditions prevail.

"When you weigh it all up, Sydney is probably Plan A but only if we strike a reasonable track," Moodie told Sky Sports Radio.

"We all know it can dry out there a lot better than it can here (in Melbourne), particularly under these cold conditions we've got at the moment and that's the way we'll probably head."

Crystal Lily resumed on a rain-affected track at Caulfield on Saturday and was run down as the short-priced favourite by Panipique in the Listed Quezette Stakes.

The brilliant filly ventured to Sydney on hit-and-run missions twice during the autumn carnival and was successful both times, winning the Sweet Embrace Stakes and the $3.5 million Golden Slipper.

Moodie said the lure of contesting the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) under set weight conditions was tempting.

"The box that is not ticked is the step up to 1400 metres but having said that she's got to confront that shortly anyhow," Moodie said.

"She's been there (to Sydney) twice under hit-and-run conditions and been successful."

Crystal Lily was the $7.50 favourite in opening markets for the Golden Rose with TAB Sportsbet last month.

She has since drifted to $11 with Masquerader the $4.60 favourite following his impressive return when finishing second under a big weight in last Saturday's Run To The Rose at Rosehill.

Vain Stakes winner Toorak Toff is second favourite at $5 ahead of unbeaten colt Squamosa at $6.
