Jason Coyle is loving life as a Sydney trainer and is hoping Subtle Cove will give Patinack Farm its first stakeswinner out of its Warwick Farm stables.
Coyle, 31, relocated from a 20-horse stable at Newcastle to the track in Sydney's west on Christmas Day to train for Nathan Tinkler's massive thoroughbred empire and now has room to accommodate more than 100 horses.
Just two days after being granted his metropolitan trainer's licence Coyle celebrated Subtle Cove's victory at Rosehill over 1500 metres.
Subtle Cove races in Saturday's Listed Frank Underwood Cup (2000m) at Rosehill and is backing up after Moti turned the tables on her over 1500 metres at that track last week.
"She came through the run fine and the plan was always to back up in the Underwood," Coyle said.
"Ideally it would have been nice to win but she still did a pretty good job to run second last start and deserves a crack at stakes level.
"I think if you go through her form this preparation she has been screaming out for a trip like this."
Subtle Cove had one start over Saturday's trip in the Group One Arrowfield Stud Stakes in April last year when trained by Guy Walter.
She only beat one runner home on the heavy Rosehill track.
"This is a big step up from the restricted fillies and mares races she's been in lately and while she's up against more seasoned gallopers, she's ready for them," Coyle said.
Subtle Cove, who likes to race close to the speed, has drawn well in barrier three and will again be ridden by Rod Quinn.
"It's ideal, hopefully we can keep her off the rail but Rod knows the horse well after riding her in her last couple of starts and he'll put her in the right spot," Coyle said.
Stablemate Ready To Impress makes her return in Saturday's Book Your Next Event At Rosehill Gardens Handicap (1200m).
"Her future is over longer trips but this looks a nice starting point for her and I'm expecting a forward run," Coyle said.
"I think she'll get 2000 metres eventually and hopefully she's got a bit of black type this prep or maybe the next."
Champion jockey of the 1960s and `70s Darby McCarthy will be a special guest at Rosehill for the launch of a program named in his honour that is hoped will encourage more indigenous people into the racing industry.
