Marc Conners' Oaks dream with Alittlebitofmonica went sideways in Melbourne when the filly failed to handle racing in the anti-clockwise direction.

The trainer has brought her back to Sydney where she will run at Rosehill on Saturday but he still harbours plans to run her in an Oaks in either Sydney or Brisbane next year.

Alittlebitofmonica finished out of the placings in the Thousand Guineas and the Wakeful Stakes, forcing Conners to pull the pin on the Oaks.

"She just didn't handle Melbourne at all," Conners said.

"She got on the wrong leg and couldn't get round the corners so we decided to pack up and come home to try to salvage something from the preparation.

"Her run in the Wakeful wasn't too bad, she wasn't too far away from the winner.

"We'll give her a couple of runs and then get her ready for the Oaks, probably in Brisbane."

Alittlebitofmonica finished 10th in the Wakeful, 4-3/4 lengths from the winner Brazilian Pulse who went on to win the VRC Oaks.

The filly will run in Saturday's Benchmark 80 Handicap over 1800 metres but Conners' is not happy she has to run against all-comers.

"It's not right that she has to take on older horses," he said.

"The programming in Sydney doesn't allow for any fillies races at this time of year over more than 1400 metres.

"But she's well so she will run."

Conners will also saddle up Pimpala Secret at Rosehill in the Benchmark 75 for three-year-olds as he tries to erase the memories of the gelding's last-start at Gosford.

"It was just another way to get beat," he said.

"He got pushed wide and another horse came up the inside of the pair and mine got beaten a nose and a nose.

"We got the protest third against first but he should have won.

"I couldn't believe it."
