A firm track could conspire against trainer Jim Conlan's Turnbull Stakes plans for in-form galloper Rekindled Interest.

Conlan's preference is to run Rekindled Interest in the Group One Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.

But he has taken the precaution of entering him for the Group Three JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night in case the track looks like it will be too hard for him at Flemington.

"The preferred option is to go to the Turnbull," said Conlan, who took Rekindled Interest to Moonee Valley for a gallop on Monday morning.

"We'll just keep an eye on it (track conditions) closer to the race although you can never pick it."

"I actually think he's really improved since his last run.

"But I don't want him to peak too early."

A $10 chance with TAB Sportsbet in the $3 million Cox Plate (2040m) at the Moonee Valley on October 22, Rekindled Interest has an excellent record at the track with two wins from three starts.

The gelding won the Group Two AAMI Vase (2040m) beating Lion Tamer on Cox Plate day last year and last start won the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) from Alcopop and Whobegotyou.

Glass Harmonium, wearing pacifiers, also galloped at Moonee Valley with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

McEvoy was on standby to ride him but Lisa Cropp is free to reunite with the Mike Moroney-trained import after having a suspension varied on appeal.

Cropp forfeited mounts at Bairnsdale on Sunday and her eight meeting suspension is now deemed to have begun after Saturday's racing leaving her free for the Turnbull meeting.

"We'll have to decide whether to put the pacifiers on him in the Turnbull," Moroney said.

"He was nice and relaxed in his work, I was surprised with how relaxed he was.

"For his first time around the Valley I thought he went really well."

Moroney said the grey, who led and ran fourth to Lion Tamer in the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) last start at Caulfield, would run in "probably the Cox Plate or the Caulfield Cup" after the Turnbull.

Mark Kavanagh wants to run $3.70 Caulfield Cup favourite December Draw in the Turnbull (2000m), but the horse is in danger of missing a run under the set-weights plus penalties conditions.

There is expected to be a big number of Turnbull nominations when the Flemington entries close on Tuesday.

Victoria Racing Club track manager Mick Goodie said the rail would be in the true position for the meeting and stewards had told him the field limit for the Turnbull would be 18.

If December Draw does not gain a run in the Turnbull, Kavanagh could run the horse in either the JRA Cup or The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington.

But a win in either of those races could mean he is penalised again for the Caulfield Cup.

December Draw received a 2kg penalty for his win in the Group Three Naturalism Stakes (2000m), taking his Caulfield Cup weight to 52kg.

Older Than Time and Scarlett Lady will be among Turnbull nominations.
