Nick Olive has been looking to test Voice Commander over 2000 metres and says he's found the perfect opportunity to do it in Saturday's Listed Frank Underwood Cup.

Olive has also accepted for Monday's Moruya Cup (1930m) with the 2008 Festival Stakes winner but with a lack of depth in the Rosehill feature he said he'd head to Sydney.

Voice Commander has only contested a 2000m race on one previous occasion and that was an unplaced effort against his own age as a three-year-old in the 2008 Tulloch Stakes.

"I have wanted to get him over this distance this campaign and I've just been trying to find the right race," Olive said.

"To be honest I don't know if he'll run the 2000 metres, there's been times where he's shown me he will and other times where he's shown me he might not. I think it will just come down to the way he's ridden."

Olive said Voice Commander would probably lead the small Underwood Cup field with his racing pattern "pretty one-dimensional".

"If he can get to the front and relax he's definitely a chance of running the distance," the Canberra trainer said.

"I think it's a good race for him if he runs the 2000 metres. There's definitely been stronger Underwood Cups."

The Frank Underwood Cup attracted just seven acceptors headed by last-start Listed Tatt's Cup (2000m) winner Spinney.

Like Spinney, Voice Commander is at his best on dry tracks and Olive is hoping rain stays away so he can get a surface to suit on Saturday.

The six-year-old son of Commands hasn't found the winner's stall since his Open Handicap victory over 1200m at Canberra in November 2009.

In his past two starts the gelding lumped 60kg to a half-head second over 1600m at Wagga on Christmas Eve and then 61kg when beaten a length into third place in the Narooma Cup (1650m) on January 3.

The rise in class in the Frank Underwood Cup will see Voice Commander carry the 53kg limit and despite his long stretch without a win, Olive can't fault the dual stakeswinner's condition.

"He'll appreciate not having to carry 60 and 61 kilos like he has been in recent starts," Olive said.

"I'm really happy with the way he's going, he's been working as good as ever but he's probably been racing a bit more dour.

"That's why we'll give him a go over 2000 metres."
