Promising four-year-old Chasm faces his biggest test in Saturday's Group Three Race-Tech Stakes at Sandown and if he wins his spring may not be over yet.
Caulfield trainer Heath Conners rates Chasm as the best galloper he's trained to date, having won five of his past six starts including victories at Caulfield and Randwick.
"If he wins and pulls up extremely well he'll back up in the Eclipse Stakes," Conners said.
"I'd like to test him over the 2100 metres looking ahead to next spring."
The Group Three Eclipse Stakes is run at Sandown on Saturday week.
The Umatilla gelding was sent to Conners by owner Neil Wilson after having three starts for another stable for a win in a Horsham three-year-old maiden (1100m) in October last year.
He has had seven starts for Conners for five wins, a second and a length fourth to Royal Discretion in the Group Three Jayco Cup (1400m) two starts back on Caulfield Cup day.
Last start he came from second last on the home turn to win the Peninsula Cup over Saturday's distance of 1500m at Mornington on November 2.
Chasm has drawn barrier 10 in the 11-horse field and will be ridden by Jason Benbow who has been aboard him at each of his starts for Conners.
"It's a bit of a step up but the form around him has been very good all the way through," Conners said.
Topweight In The Shadows is favourite at $4.40 with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Chasm ($4.80), Marching ($5.50), Count To Zero ($7.50), Orbit Express ($8) with Friday Creek next best at $8.50.
