The Caulfield Cup is slipping off the agenda for Ready To Lift with trainer Gerald Ryan plotting another path to the Melbourne Cup.
Ryan doesn't believe the mare's unplaced performance in the Metropolitan Handicap won by Speed Gifted is the right lead-in to such a high pressure race as Saturday's Caulfield Cup (2400m).
"I don't really think she is a Caulfield Cup horse and her last run doesn't warrant running in the race," Ryan said.
"It's a tough race and there are other options for her going towards the Melbourne Cup.
Among those options are the David Jones Cup (formerly Coongy Handicap 2000m) on Caulfield Cup day and the Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) a week later.
Runner-up in the Brisbane Cup (2400m) on a heavy track in June, Ready To Lift has had a mixed spring campaign.
She was well back at her first two starts over 1500 and 1800 metres then shone under 58 kilograms to win the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) on September 12.
She went into the Metropolitan three weeks later as one of the favourites but languished near the back of the field, finishing 16 lengths from the winner.
Speed Gifted remains the $5 TAB Sportsbet favourite for the Caulfield Cup but trainer lee Freedman has not yet confirmed a start.
Ready To Lift has drifted to $61 after being among the top group before the Metropolitan while the big mover is Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder who is in to $12.
Prior to her victory in Saturday's Toorak with Michelle Payne aboard, Allez Wonder was upwards of $100 to win the Cup.
She has also rocketed up the charts to $17 for the Melbourne Cup with 2007 winner Efficient heading markets at $5 ahead of Speed Gifted and Alcopop at $7.50 and 2008 winner Viewed at $9.
Cummings has won the Caulfield Cup with Toorak Handicap winners twice in the past - Galilee in 1966 and Leilani in 1994 - and has no fears about stepping Allez Wonder up in distance so soon.
"She might not be as good them but she has got a big heart," Cummings said.
Allez Wonder finished third to Samantha Miss in the 2008 VRC Oaks (2500m) but was out of the money in the AJC Australian Oaks in April won by Daffodil, New Zealand's leading hope this spring.
