A country trainer with a knack for buying cheap relations to well-known racehorses has her sights set on a city win with her latest bargain buy.

Bathurst horsewoman Sarah Murray-Leslie is hoping Yorked, purchased out of a tried horse's sale for $400, can continue her impressive bush form at Canterbury on Wednesday.

"It's my birthday on Wednesday and it would be nice to think she could run a race," the mother of five said.

"Canterbury is the right track for her, the (wet) conditions should be perfect and there's no reason why she can't run well if she brings her A game."

Yorked was purchased sight unseen because Murray-Leslie was keen to buy a horse by Foreplay, a Newmarket Handicap placegetter who stood the last breeding season at Woodside Park in Victoria.

"I got someone from Inglis to have a look at her for me and they described her as friendly, small and a bit plain," Murray-Leslie said.

"I thought that was good enough and it turned out I was the only bidder."

Buying Yorked turned out to be the easiest part.

"A few weeks after getting her home the wheels fell off," Murray-Leslie said.

"She was an absolute fruit loop in trackwork so after getting all the grain out of her diet I started all over again with her.

"Luckily at the races she's not like that at all. She knows how to win and hopefully she can bring that attitude to Sydney."

Yorked has won four races for Murray-Leslie, the latest when she fought back to win on a slow track at Orange.

The mare's form has continued a remarkable run at the bottom end of the bloodstock trading market for Murray-Leslie.

Her purchases for modest sums have included a half-brother to Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou and a half-sister to AJC Australian Oaks heroine Once Were Wild.

But her biggest payday might be just around corner if Gai Waterhouse's youngster Raceway can win this year's Golden Slipper.

Murray-Leslie purchased a Hussonet mare called Lets Hussle through another tried sale for $1600 and won two races with her on country tracks.

Lets Hussle's value as a half-sister to Raceway, who took made it two wins from as many starts with his Canonbury Stakes win last Saturday, is already climbing and the trainer is making plans for a re-sale later this year.

A Raceway win in the Golden Slipper would make her one of the most sought-after broodmares in the Inglis Easter broodmare sale catalogue.

Raceway is the $6 favourite Golden Slipper favourite after the weekend's racing.
