Sydney's premier jockey Hugh Bowman's defence of his title was boosted by a treble at Randwick but then soured by suspension.

Bowman has joined Corey Brown at the top of the table on 36 wins but will be out after he rides in New Zealand on Sunday until February 12.

He received the ban at an adjourned inquiry into an incident at Canterbury on Thursday night.

Brown rode in Melbourne on Saturday while Rawiller was in Hobart, leaving Bowman with a strong book of rides at Randwick.

His first two winners came for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Australia on juvenile Skilled and the more experienced Gergis with stable rider Kerrin McEvoy also at the Lightning Stakes meeting at Flemington.

"I don't do a lot of riding for Darley and it's always good to get the opportunity to ride for them," Bowman said.

"The best thing is that eight out of ten of the horses are a chance of winning."

Bowman's third winner came on the Tim Martin-trained three-year-old The Mikado whose only other victory came when the pair combined at Grafton in July last year.

The Daceyville Hcp (1100m) was The Mikado's first start since he finished sixth in the Group One Golden Rose won by Denman in August.

Bowman bided his time on The Mikado after Winter King tried to run the field off its feet before being found wanting over the closing stages.

"I wanted to make sure I had a finish so I didn't chase him," Bowman said.

Former Victorian apprentice Brenton Avdulla continued to make his presence felt in Sydney with a winning double, Will To Win for his master Anthony Cummings and Pagan Princess for Grahame Begg.

The Rosebery Hcp (1600m) was the second career win for Pagan Princess and came off the back of a midweek maiden victory.

"She jumped a few grades today but I wanted a 1600 metre race for her and this was the only one," Begg said.

"I think she will go even further in distance and she was going so well she deserved her chance here.

"And it's great for her owner Mark Alati. He has had horses with me for a while for a lot of placings and now this mare has won two for him."

Bowman will ride last-start winner Brave Warrior in the Karaka Million at Ellerslie on Sunday.
