Hugh Bowman had to borrow his neighbour's ute just to get to Rosehill on Saturday but once there the leading jockey dominated the day with his second four-win haul in a month.

On a day when a host of Sydney's top riders descended on the Gold Coast for Magic Millions day, Bowman was in rare form at home with his four victories sending him 10 clear in the Sydney premiership.

Bowman's day didn't get off to the best start when his car didn't start, but his neighbour kindly allowed the hoop to borrow his ute so he could get to the track on time.

"I might have to ask him if I can bring it to the races every Saturday," Bowman quipped after notching his 45th metropolitan winner of the season.

"I'm rapt with the day. I made the decision not to go to the Gold Coast because I didn't have much to go up there for and I'd say it was worthwhile now."

Two-year-old De Shamekh ($1.75 fav) opened proceedings for Bowman with a 3-1/4-length victory in the Australian Turf Club Plate (1100m) but the jockey was only getting started as he quickly added victories on Permit and Chivvy to claim the first three races.

After a winning double to fellow hoop Peter Robl, Bowman was back in the winner's stall on Key West in the TAB Sportsbet Handicap (1300m).

Bowman had Key West up on the speed and then put his foot down from the 700-metre mark in what proved a winning move with the gelding scoring by half a length over Bereft with Bello third.

"I had good rides and thought I was chances in everything coming into the day but outside the first one I couldn't really pinpoint any standouts," Bowman said.

"Permit was pretty impressive today though, he was probably the pick of them."

Bowman needed to be patient on Permit in the Action Business Coach Handicap (2400m) as the stayer had a wall of horses in front of him in the straight.

But the five-year-old gelding was able to get into the clear inside the final 150m and sprinted quickly to reel in his rivals.

"It was moderate opposition today but I would think he could be up to genuine top-class (staying) handicaps over autumn," Bowman said.

The four-win haul continued an excellent summer for Bowman who also rode four winners on Villiers Stakes day last month as well as a treble at Warwick Farm last Saturday and a double at Canterbury on Friday night.
