Glamour jockeys Glen Boss and Jim Cassidy will break from their Sydney autumn carnival commitments to ride at Friday's rich Albury Gold Cup meeting.

Boss, back on his pedestal as a Group One star following his Coolmore Classic victory on Typhoon Tracy at Rosehill on Saturday, has taken up the offer to ride Victorian gelding Bolle in the $125,000 Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup.

Boss has been Australia's leading Group One jockey three times since 2003 but his Coolmore Classic victory was his first major success of the current season.

Now based in Melbourne after deciding to move from Sydney late last year, Boss will head to Albury in top form after riding five winners in Victoria on Friday including three at the Moonee Valley night meeting.

He returned to Victoria on Sunday to ride a winner at Cranbourne.

Bolle's trainer Barbara Marshman from Hamilton in western Victoria, offered Boss the Albury Cup ride when Damien Oliver declined the mount due to other commitments.

Oliver has ridden Bolle in his last two starts in Melbourne for a Moonee Valley win and second at Flemington. It will be the first time Boss and Cassidy have ridden in the Albury Gold Cup (2000m).

Cassidy is making the trip from Sydney to continue his association with the talented prospect Rock Song, trained at Rosehill by Tim Martin.

Martin decided to target the Albury Cup with Rock Song after the four-year-old's impressive wins at his last two starts at Rosehill and Randwick when he has been ridden by Cassidy.

Rock Song will be Martin's first Albury Cup starter.

Sydney's champion trainer Gai Waterhouse will be making only her second bid to win the Albury Cup with the promising stayer Grand Commander.

Waterhouse, whose other Albury Cup starter Statesmanship was unplaced in 2003, has booked Grant Buckley for a rare feature race ride for her stable.

Grand Commander, a noted front runner, has won six of his 16 starts and will head to Albury off an all-the-way win over 1600m at Gosford on March 8 at his fourth run back from a spell.
