The Rado Boljun pair Clever Hans and Kiss My Fuji head to Wagga on Friday as a precursor to big-race assignments at next month's Narooma Cup meeting at Moruya.

Both horses resume in the Alan Harris McDonald and Co Benchmark 70 Hcp (1200m).

Boljun, who lived in Narooma for 20 years before shifting to Canberra, has Clever Hans aimed at the $22,000 Narooma Cup (1650m) and Kiss My Fuji at the $14,000 Narooma Town Plate (1200m) on January 3.

Former Darley-owned Clever Hans, a Viscount four-year-old who won five races and ran four placings in nine starts in his first preparation under Boljun, ranks as the affable trainer's top pick on Friday despite finishing astern of Kiss My Fuji in three jumpouts.

"Kiss My Fuji has beaten him home every time but the jumpouts were over 800 metres," Boljun said.

"Clever Hans should race fourth of fifth, Kiss My Fuji will be back nearer last.

"I only let Clever Hans work home the last 200 metres in the jumpouts.

"He's come back really good.

"I think he's a much better horse, always been nice and strong but I like him.

"He hasn't grown much.

"My only concern is the 1200 metres. Last time he took a couple of runs to get fully wound up then clicked, just went bang, bang, bang when he got up in distance.

"The distance is my only problem, 1300 metres and I'd be more confident but I think he can finish in the first two.

"He's had a lot of preparatory work, ready to go to the races.

"I'm really happy with the way he's going."

Clever Hans, a Roly Saxton mount, has won from 1200m to 1800m and Boljun believes the gelding can step up to 2000m this preparation.

"He showed plenty last time and there's a bit of staying blood in his pedigree," he said.

Kiss My Fuji, a nine-year-old to be ridden by four-kilogram claimer Kayla Nisbet, hasn't raced for 30 weeks since his third to Nardoola Kid at Moree in May.

"He's had a long break, come back good and the Town Plate is his aim," Boljun said.
